Abbeville is a city and the county seat of the Abbeville County, South Carolina, US. It was named after a French town with the same name as it was settled by Huguenot settlers initially. This city is located 86 miles west of Columbia and Greenville is 45 miles north.
The city of Abbeville was established at a site named John de la Howe by French Huguenots in 1764. It was incorporated in 1840. The first person to practice law here was John C. Calhoun, the Vice President and well-known states’ rights advocate.

The population density of this city is 4166.7 people per square mile. The racial makeup is divided into 69.6% White, 28.3% African-American, and the rest of the people belong to other races.
The residents of Abbeville experience a humid sub-tropical climate. This means that summers are hot and humid, and winters are mild to cool. The average temperature in summers is usually around 90 degrees.
